Dreams Realized This Disability Pride Month

Every July, we come together to celebrate Disability Pride Month, a time to honor the incredible strength, resilience, and contributions of individuals of all abilities. At St. John’s Community Services, this celebration is more than just a month; it embodies the core of our daily mission.

Thanks to your unwavering support, lives are transformed as people living with disabilities embrace life filled with dignity, purpose, and a sense of belonging. Here are some inspiring stories that reflect the dreams blossoming within the vibrant communities you help support.

After facing personal challenges and emotional hurdles, Tiffany discovered a new way to express herself: through painting. In our day program, she was encouraged to put her feelings “on the canvas.” Now, her bold, heartfelt artwork has been featured in public exhibits, and nearly all of her pieces have sold. For Tiffany, it’s more than just art — it’s an affirmation of her self-worth, community recognition, and emotional healing.

And Ginger, who is living her best life. She shares a home with friends through our residential program, advocates for herself as part of Tennessee’s Advocates in Motion, and takes pride in her job at Marshalls with support from our employment team.

In Delaware, Andrew's story is also inspiring. He set a goal to become a licensed driver and spent eight months with his Direct Support Professional (DSP) studying for the exam. After successfully passing the driving test, he made another goal to purchase his own vehicle. With your support, he found a job, saved the money he needed, and drove his first car right off the lot.

These stories are more than just successes — they are testaments to what purpose and person-centered supports look like in action. Your belief in our mission makes stories like these possible. Thank you for your continued support.
