What One Day Can Do: Celebrating Our Day of Giving

There are days that remind you why this work matters. February 13 was one of them.

On a cold Friday afternoon at DC Doors in Northeast Washington, St. John's Community Services brought together partners, volunteers, and neighbors for the SJCS Day of Giving: a free community event designed to meet people where they are and ensure everyone has access to free winter clothing, food, and local resources.

Throughout the event, guests were able to get a free haircut from one of four professional barbers from Bennett Career Institute, and pick up a warm coat generously donated by the U.S. Capitol Police, along with clothing, shoes, and socks.

Our Mobile Food Pantry was on-site providing groceries and essentials to individuals and families, hot chili and cornbread were served, and transportation resources were available from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).

This is what community partnership looks like in action. When generous people like you come together with a shared purpose, our community is stronger.
