Alan Thornton, recently appointed President and CEO, will assume his role December 2017. Alan comes to SJCS with over 20 years of non-profit experience. Formerly the Chief Executive Officer at the Rescue Mission Alliance in Syracuse, New York, Alan was selected following an extensive national search process conducted by Staffing Advisors. Thornton assumes the position from interim executive director, Kathryn Stephens, who succeeded Roger Deshaies after his tenure concluded in late 2016.

We were humbled and honored by the tremendous interest shown by potential candidates and are excited about the skills and energy Alan will bring to the position. We look forward to the positive impact Alan will make at SJCS and within the communities we have the privilege to serve.”
In his current role at the Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracuse, Thornton provides leadership and strategic direction for a multi-regional non-profit where he oversees 350 staff and a budget of $20 million with the mission of ending homelessness in New York. Thornton received a bachelor’s degree from Messiah College and a master of business administration degree from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.
