In June 2000, SJCS began supporting many former residents of Pennhurst, the state institution, in seeking competitive employment within the Philadelphia area. Today, SJCS-PA continues to provide employment services for people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities, as well as various mental health issues.  SJCS Employment Specialists support each individual and work closely with employers and co-workers to ensure a good job match and a positive work experience.

In 2009, SJCS-PA launched Community Participation (adult day) services, a unique day-support "program without walls" for adults with disabilities in which they can participate in activities that fit their needs and interests in typical community settings. This service can be combined with employment for people who work part-time, serve as career exploration for those seeking employment or as a retirement option for those who no longer choose to work. SJCS-PA was accredited by CARF, the internationally recognized accreditation body, in the fall 2010.
